Hi, I'm Iván 👋

Engineering Leader · Product Engineer · Senior Software Engineer

I build products, engineering systems, and teams.

For more than 15 years, I've worked at the intersection of software engineering, product, and people — from writing code and designing systems to shaping products, leading teams, mentoring engineers, and improving how software gets built.

I'm especially interested in how AI is changing the entire product development loop — not just coding faster, but how we explore ideas, define problems, make technical decisions, slice scope, build, review, test, ship, and learn.

🚀 What I'm Building

Co-Founder & Product Engineer

Building Avenida end-to-end in close collaboration with Product — from product definition and technical direction to architecture, backend, frontend, infrastructure, and delivery.

It's also where I experiment most with AI-native product development, agentic workflows, engineering automation, and new ways of moving from an idea to production without sacrificing product thinking or engineering quality.

🧭 What I Work On

  • Product Engineering — turning ambiguous ideas into useful products and taking them from 0→1
  • Engineering Leadership — creating clarity, ownership, trust, and sustainable execution
  • Software Architecture — designing pragmatic systems that remain understandable and maintainable
  • AI-Native Development — exploring how AI can improve the complete engineering and product workflow
  • Developer Experience — reducing friction in how engineers build, test, ship, and operate software
  • Mentoring — helping engineers grow technically, professionally, and as future leaders

🛠️ Main Skills

Backend & APIs

Elixir Phoenix Ruby Rails Python REST APIs

Frontend & Product Development

TypeScript JavaScript React Next.js React Native

Data, Infra & Delivery

PostgreSQL MySQL AWS Docker GitHub Actions CI/CD

AI & Engineering Workflows

Claude OpenAI AI Agents Agentic Workflows Developer Experience

Technologies change. I care more about choosing the right tool, keeping systems understandable, and building software that can evolve without becoming painful to change.

✍️ Writing About Engineering

I write about engineering leadership, product development, AI, software delivery, and the small practices that help engineering teams work better.

📚 Engineering Playbooks

I'm interested in the operating layer around software engineering: the practices, decisions, and ways of working that help us build better software and healthier teams.

I've been documenting what I've learned through experience, research, and reflection in two public playbooks:

A practical collection of principles, frameworks, and reusable templates for leading engineering teams. Covering everything from decision-making, delivery, and technical direction to team culture, collaboration, and sustainable ways of working.

A living, always-work-in-progress collection of experiments, practical guides, and lessons learned from building software with AI. Exploring coding agents, context engineering, AI harnesses, team workflows, and how AI is reshaping the way we build software.

Both are living resources, evolving as I learn, experiment, and reconsider what I thought I knew.

🤝 Mentoring

I'm a mentor at MentorCruise, where I help software engineers develop stronger skills in:

  • Backend and software architecture
  • Product engineering
  • Technical decision-making
  • Engineering leadership
  • Career development
  • Moving from senior engineer toward technical or people leadership

I particularly enjoy helping engineers move beyond simply implementing tickets toward understanding why we're building something, how to make good trade-offs, and how to increase their impact beyond code.
